Trip Report: Jumby Bay, a Rosewood Resort

Named for the impish spirits believed to roam about the West Indies, Jumby Bay, a Rosewood Resort is sure to enchant. Situated on a 300-acre private island located two miles off the coast of Antigua, this plush resort provides plenty of playful diversions — from snorkeling and sailboarding to Caloi bike rides and sunset cocktail cruises — all gratis.

The 40 gorgeously refurbished guestrooms and suites are equally charming, with wraparound terraces and outdoor garden showers. The romantic Estate House restaurant (once a colonial plantation home) serves fine Mediterranean-inspired fare, also included.

Looking for space for the entire family? Rent one of the gorgeous villas or estate homes. With full access to all the resort amenities and services at Jumby Bay, and many with their own private beaches, they are the perfect choice for any occasion where guests want to stay and play together.

We had the pleasure of a five night stay in a Pool Suite. We had a great time looking for starfish at Jumby Bay Beach, water skiing, mingling with other guests and resort staff at the Wine Down reception, riding bikes around the island, lounging by our own private pool in the afternoons, listening to local musicians on the sunset cruise, and on our private picnic lunch at Pasture Bay Beach. Don’t miss the photo tour!

What we loved about Jumby Bay:

  • Short trip to and from the airport on a regularly scheduled private ferry.
  • Genuinely warm and friendly service from staff.
  • True all-inclusive – no checks to sign after meals or drinks.
  • All of the included activities.
  • Luxurious and spacious amenity packed room.

Trip Report: Grand Velas Riviera Maya

Grand Class Suite

Grand Class Suite

The second post in my series of my twelve day trip to Mexico. My husband and I stayed three nights in an Ambassador Class Suite at Grand Velas Riviera Maya. Wow – This is not your typical all inclusive resort! The rooms, food, and service were all wonderful. They also do a great job at the difficult task of catering to the needs of both couples and families. In fact the kids club stays open until 11:00PM to allow parents to have dinner alone, if they so choose. The huge beach and pool area is a great asset and difficult to find at many resorts in the Mayan Riviera.

Rooms:

We stayed in an Ambassador Class Suite on the fourth floor with a direct oceanfront view. There are three main categories of suites (491 total) at Grand Velas: Zen Grand (in the jungle area), Ambassador Class (surrounding the pool and beach area), and Grand Class (adults only, all oceanfront suites). Our suite was well appointed with a separate tub and shower, fully stocked mini-bar, and Nespresso machine.

Location:

Grand Velas Riviera Maya is located approximately thirty-five minutes south of the Cancun airport.

Restaurants:

There are five a la carte restaurants throughout the property that serve gourmet cuisine for dinner. In addition, you can dine at three restaurants a la carte or buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Plus, there’s always room service and the snack bar! We found the meal portions ranged from perfect to more than generous. I can assure you that you will not go hungry here. Even as a vegetarian I found plenty to eat everywhere that we dined.

Lobby:

Each class of suites has it’s own lobby that was designed to reflect the look and feel of the rooms. You will check in at the lobby associated with your room category.

Gym/Spa:

Regardless of your room category, you will find a well-appointed gym with plenty of modern equipment nearby. Of course, you are welcome to use the gym facilities in any area, regardless of where you are staying.

The spa is one of the highlights of the resort. At nearly 90,000 square feet it is large, but still maintains an intimate calm feel.

Overall:

We had a great stay at Grand Velas Riviera Maya. The resort does an impeccable job of catering to both families with their all day kids club, huge pool area, and wide calm beach. It’s also a great choice for couples who are looking for a quiet getaway due to the ability to enjoy the adults only pool and beach area at the Grand Class area.
