Site Inspection: Fairmont Mayakoba

Updated: Jun 26, 2021

I have had many clients ask me about this property, especially after the announcement of their new all-inclusive option called Appetite for Luxury. I was thrilled to be able to do a site inspection and gain firsthand insight into what makes this resort unique. I loved the eco-friendly luxury, serene spaces, and focus on family.

Rooms:

I toured three different room categories: Deluxe Casita, Beachfront Casita Suite, and Oceanfront Casita Suite. All room categories have the standard amenities that you would expect from a luxury resort. One of my favorite things about the rooms is the mini bar – they call it a refreshment center. The area is empty when you arrive, unless you ask it to be pre-stocked. To fill your refreshment center with the exact items that you want, simply visit Cafe Maya. You can choose from a wide selection of items and they will be delivered to your room. How about a selection of gourmet cheese, crackers, and a chilled bottle of wine? Sounds like the perfect way to end a day at the beach.

There are many eco-friendly aspects to the rooms as well, and none of them sacrifice comfort or quality. The stone on the building facades was cut from the lagoon when the property was being built. The roof tiles are made from recycled tires. The bathrooms feature large windows that flood them with natural light and help bring the outdoors in.

The main choice you will need to make is do you want to stay in the jungle area or the beach area. My personal favorite room was the Beachfront Casita Suite. The plunge pool, privacy, and views were amazing!

Location:

The Fairmont Mayakoba is located approximately 40 minutes south of the Cancun airport. It is in the Mayakoba complex; a gated community of resorts that includes the Rosewood Mayakoba and the Banayan Tree Mayakoba. As a guest of the Fairmont you have signing privileges for dining at any of the Mayakoba resorts and complimentary transportation is provided.

Gym/Spa:

The spa is absolutely gorgeous. I loved the co-ed relaxation space upstairs where you can order food or lounge on the roofdeck by the two heated mineral pools. A nice way to spend time with a loved one, or enjoy the peace and quiet alone.

Of course, if you are an avid golfer you will enjoy staying at the resort that hosts the El Camaleon course, home of the PGA Mayakoba Golf Classic.

Kids and families:

The Fairmont does an excellent job of catering to children. The kids club activities looked amazing – who wouldn’t want to bake cookies with the chef? Or how about learning some Mayan words? Sounds like fun! In addition, every evening at six there is a movie. There is also a shallow pool for little ones and a pool with a waterslide for older kids.

Want to hire a babysitter so that you can have a romantic dinner? All babysitters at the property are nurses and they have all undergone an extensive training program that Fairmont requires at all of its properties worldwide.

Worried that your child may get sick while on vacation? The resort has a doctor’s office in the main lobby and an English speaking doctor from the area’s best hospital who is on call 24 hours a day.

Other:

Unlike the other Mayakoba properties, you can use the bicycles here to get around the property for free. They even have bikes for children. Of course, you can also take a golf cart or walk.

Overall:

This is a fabulous property and I highly recommend it for families, golfers, and foodies.
