Trip Report: The Ritz-Carlton Cancun – November 2007

Updated: Jun 26, 2021

We had a fabulous time at the Ritz-Carlton with our friends. This hotel does a great job of providing numerous activity opportunities, especially if you’re a foodie. We had a blast at the Tequila Tasting, enjoyed the free use of the boogie boards, and the varied options for meals. It’s easy to get here, but hard to leave!

Rooms:

Ocean Front Room

Overall the decor of the hotel and the rooms is a bit dowdy (personal taste) and heavily European influenced – think wealthy aristocratic grandmother. It’s not sleek and modern, but the furnishings and linens are clean, high quality and comfortable. We had an Ocean Front Room overlooking the adult pool.

Location:

Located in Cancun’s hotel zone, approximately 15-20 minutes from Cancun airport.

Restaurant/Lobby:

Food – Overall We didn’t go anywhere else to eat – the food was wonderful! The only negative to the food is that it is not spicy. If you want to add some spice to your meal, ask for the habanero sauce. I am a vegetarian (no meat, dairy/eggs are fine), but the rest of the people I traveled with are not.

Breakfast The breakfast buffet was awesome – it included Mexican, Japanese, and American food – as well as a large selection of pastries and fruit. Many of the items changed daily, so we never tired of eating there.

Lunch We had lunch at the beach everyday – loved the Mexican pizza.

Dinner – Themed Buffet We attended the seafood buffet and the Mexican Fiesta. The Seafood Buffet was great because they offered us the choice of having the buffet or ordering off the Cafe Mexicano dinner menu. Therefore, my husband and friends got to eat lots seafood, while I ordered something vegetarian from the dinner menu.

The Mexican Fiesta buffet was good, but there weren’t many vegetarian options.

Dinner – Fine Dining

Our dinner at Casitas on the beach was amazing! The service was perfect, the chef offered me three choices for my meal and every dish was exquisite. It was worth every penny!

Gym/Spa:

I did not go to the gym. The spa was nice, especially the showers and the outdoor relaxation area.

Overall:

This was a fun trip. The service and food here are top notch. We liked it so well that we went back without our friends in June 2008.
