Trip Report: Great Fosters

Updated: Jul 2, 2021

A stay at Great Fosters is a wow experience from start to finish. The hotel dates to 1550 and was likely originally built to be a royal hunting lodge. Located in Egham a suburb of London, Great Fosters is only approximately 20 minutes from London’s Heathrow Airport.

This makes it the perfect place to recover from a long flight from the United States, or to end your stay in the countryside before heading home. The location is also central for exploring many popular tourist destinations, including Hampton Court Palace, Windsor Castle, and Eton. If you love history and are looking for a respite from London, Great Fosters is an excellent addition to your itinerary.

I truly can’t decide about what I like best about this hotel. The service was impeccable. The gardens are spectacular during any season and they even have an outdoor pool available during the summer. Dinner in the Tudor Room is an absolute must! Our meal was wonderful, and my vegetarian version of each course was absolutely amazing. Last, but not least, the Historic rooms defy description. I felt transported back in time hundreds of years, except that I had full use of all of the modern amenities. Such a neat experience!
