Trip Report: Rosewood London

Updated: Jul 2, 2021

How does a hotel manage to be brand new, yet timeless? Quintessentially British, but neither stiff nor stuffy? Romantic, yet not frilly? Modern, yet comfortable? In many ways my stay at Rosewood London defied the usual London hotel stereotypes.

Check in was a breeze as I was escorted directly to my Premier Suite upon arrival. A quick tour of the space and I was officially a resident. It felt like I had my own flat in London. The space had everything that I needed – a Nespresso machine, two Sub-zero refrigerator drawers full stocked with cold drinks, heated marble floors in the bathroom, a selection of the latest magazines in the living room, thick wool blackout curtains throughout.

This attention to detail; this guest centered approach, is what I love about Rosewood Hotels & Resorts. Someone had thought about what I would want in a London hotel room, and they delivered. The design wasn’t about the designer or the hotel owner; it was a reflection of the needs of travelers. Such attention to the guest experience should be ubiquitous in luxury hotels, yet it is exceedingly rare. Kudos to Rosewood London!

Dinner on my first evening in London was a cheese toasty in Scarfes Bar. I had gone down for pre-dinner drink and the atmosphere and live jazz music was so wonderful, that I was unwilling to go elsewhere. The sandwich was delicious, warm and cheesy, cut in triangles and served with a side of spicy tomato chutney at the bartender’s suggestion. This is a fun and vibrant bar and a great place to stop in for a drink in the evening, especially when one is suffering from jet lag and in need of some pep.

I have been asked about the location. To me it is absolutely a non-issue. You are a short cab ride away from any tourist attraction or shopping area, and mere steps from the Holborn Underground Station. The expansive spaces and brand new furnishings are a huge value and well worth any potential extra distance, especially for seasoned travelers or those in town on business. The only true location challenge is that the hotel is so new that many cab drivers have never heard of it. Just tell them that it is the former Chancery Court. Works like a charm!
