Trip Report: A Long Weekend on Cape Cod
Updated: Jul 8, 2021
Despite having lived in Massachusetts for over a decade, I had never visited either of the most luxurious resorts on Cape Cod, Chatham Bars Inn and the Wequassett Resort & Golf Club. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to stay for two nights at the former, and one night at the latter.
The weather was quite chilly during my trip in early June. You can expect the summer temperatures to be around 10 degrees lower than what is forecast in Boston, and vice versa in the winter.
However, the pools at both resorts are heated and have glass fencing to protect them from the wind. Therefore, it is completely feasible to lay out or swim, even if the outside temperature is only in the mid-60’s.
Chatham Bars Inn
This is a large resort across the street from a beautiful stretch of private beach. The main building feels much like the simple grandeur of the National Parks lodges in the West – tea or cocktails on the veranda, an afternoon spent gazing out at the view from an Adirondack chair, local cuisine served in a cozy pub.
The summer months are busy here with lots of families on vacation and couples getting married. For a more relaxing experience – a romantic long weekend or girl’s spa getaway – I would recommend visiting in either autumn or spring.
The spa facilities are fabulous, but there are only five treatment rooms so make sure you book in advance.
You can walk to town from the resort to do a little shopping, get some ice cream or candy, or have a meal. It takes about 15 minutes and there are sidewalks the entire way.

Wequassett Resort & Golf Club
An exclusive enclave on the beach in Harwich, guests have access to play the famous and private Cape Cod National Golf Course. The resort has a main pool and hot tub located on the beach with full food and beverage service, as well as a heated adults-only lap pool and hot tub located near the tennis courts.
The resort has an amazing Children’s Center that includes an outdoor splash area and pirate ship. Indoors there are fun and educational games for both younger children and teens.
The resort does not currently have a spa, but they can arrange spa services for you with a local provider. They do have a nice fitness facility which is located near the main pool.
